A Help Scout Docs site accepts custom JavaScript in its Insert <head> Code field, and that is where the ConveyThis snippet goes. From then on, every article, collection page and search result on that Docs site can be read in the languages you picked, and a language switcher sits in the bottom-right corner.

Help Scout's own translation settings rename the Docs interface labels, such as the search placeholder, but leave article text alone. ConveyThis covers the articles too, so you do not have to clone the knowledge base into a second Docs site for each language and keep the copies in sync by hand.

Integrate ConveyThis with your HelpScout by following these simple steps:

Create ConveyThis Account

Create a ConveyThis account here. Your ConveyThis account dashboard lets you view and manage all your translations.

Configure Your Integration

Select Help Scout as your website technology. Enter your domain name and indicate the languages you want to translate your website into. Click "Next" to proceed through the setup.

Install via Help Scout Docs

Go to your Help Scout account, click "Manage" > "Docs", select your Docs site, then click "Custom Code" in the left menu. Paste the JavaScript code into the Insert </head> Code field and save. See detailed guide.

Test and Manage

Visit your Help Scout docs to see the language switcher appear at the bottom right (may take a few minutes). Test the functionality and manage all your translations through the ConveyThis dashboard.

Help Scout Docs translation: common questions

How do I add ConveyThis to a Help Scout Docs site?

Create a ConveyThis account, choose Help Scout, and enter your Docs domain plus the languages you want. In Help Scout, open the Docs site you want to translate (current menus: Settings → Docs Sites → your site), click Custom Code, paste the snippet at the end of the Insert <head> Code field and save. Our Help Scout guide walks through it with screenshots.

Doesn't Help Scout translate Docs on its own?

Partly. Each Docs site has translation settings for its labels and informational text, and Help Scout suggests AI Assist or a translation integration for article content, or a separate Docs site per language. ConveyThis translates labels and articles together on the site you already have, then lets you correct any sentence in the visual editor and keep product names fixed with the glossary.

We run several Docs sites for different products. How is that billed?

Each Docs site has its own address, so each one is a separate website in ConveyThis. Free, Starter and Business cover one website; Pro covers three and Pro+ five. The plan's word limit is shared by all websites in the account, while languages are chosen per site, so one product's docs can be in French only and another's in five languages. Details are in using ConveyThis on multiple websites.

Can translated Docs pages have their own URLs?

Only when your Docs site uses a custom domain whose DNS you manage. Help Scout lets you point a sub-domain such as help.yourcompany.com at Docs with a CNAME record; with that in place, ConveyThis language sub-domains are available on the Business plan or higher and come with hreflang tags. A site on the default helpscoutdocs.com address runs in the default mode. Our guide to language URLs explains the records.

How do I stop code samples or UI names from being translated?

Add terms such as your product name or button labels to the glossary so they stay as written in every language. For whole blocks, such as an API example, put the content in an HTML block in the Docs editor and give the element the conveythis-no-translate class; see excluding segments.
