JavaScript website translation: common questions

Which kinds of websites can use the JavaScript snippet?
Any site where you control the HTML that reaches the visitor's browser. That includes hand-coded pages, output from static site generators, server-rendered apps written in PHP, Python, Ruby or Node, and hosted builders that let you add header code. If your site runs on a platform with its own ConveyThis integration, such as WordPress or Shopify, skip the snippet and install that plugin or app instead.
Where exactly do I paste the code?
Inside the <head> of every page, just before </head>. When all pages share one layout file or header include, adding it there once is enough. On a site builder, look for a setting called Custom Code, Header Code or something similar. Copy the snippet from your dashboard after you pick your languages, and copy it again if you later change settings there. The JavaScript setup guide has screenshots of each step.
What about text that JavaScript adds after the page has loaded?
It gets translated too. The widget monitors the document for changes, so results returned by an AJAX call, filtered product lists, tabs and "load more" sections are handled when they appear, and navigation that changes the address without a full reload is followed. Values that must stay in the source language, like account names or order numbers, can be protected with the conveythis-no-translate class, as the exclusion guide shows.
Which URL structure should a custom-built site choose?
The setup wizard offers four: no language in the URL, a language parameter, a sub-domain such as fr.example.com, or a sub-folder such as example.com/fr/. Only the last two give every language its own indexable address with automatic hreflang, and both require the Business plan or higher. We suggest the sub-domain, since it needs just a CNAME record for each language while your server keeps delivering the original. A sub-folder means pointing the domain's A record at ConveyThis, so all requests, originals included, pass through us. Details are in the URL structure guide.
I build sites for clients. Can one account cover several of them?
Yes, from the Pro plan upward: Pro ($64 a month) includes 3 websites, Pro+ ($110) includes 5 and Optimum ($160) includes 10, while Free, Starter and Business are limited to a single site. Each website keeps its own languages and settings, and the plan's word allowance is pooled across all of them. Read using ConveyThis on multiple websites or compare tiers on the pricing page.
