For search, sub-domains such as fr.example.com (one CNAME each) are the simplest option; /fr/ folders are possible with an A record for www. Both need the Business plan or higher and include hreflang tags.

Squarespace translation: common questions

How do I add ConveyThis to Squarespace?

Create a ConveyThis account, choose Squarespace, and enter your domain and languages. In Squarespace go to Website → Pages → Website Tools → Code Injection, paste the ConveyThis snippet into the Header field and save. Code Injection is not available on every Squarespace plan, so check yours first. The Squarespace setup guide has screenshots.

Can I use /fr/ URLs on a Squarespace site?

Yes, on the Business plan or higher, but it takes a DNS change: you replace the www CNAME that points to Squarespace with an A record pointing to ConveyThis. Sub-domains (fr.example.com, one CNAME per language) are simpler and leave your Squarespace records alone, so we recommend them. Both add hreflang tags. See the URL structure guide.

Are product pages, blog posts and forms translated?

Yes. ConveyThis translates the pages visitors see, including Squarespace Commerce product pages, blog posts, form fields and buttons, and translates page titles and meta descriptions for search. New posts and products are picked up automatically.

Can visitors see the site in their language automatically?

Yes. You can turn on visitor redirection based on the browser's language, set a default language, and style the language switcher (colors, flags, position, or a drop-down in your navigation) to match your Squarespace template.

What does it cost to translate a Squarespace site?

Start free: the Free plan translates up to 5,000 words into one language, enough for a small Squarespace portfolio. Starter is $12 per month for 30,000 words in one language; Business is $24 per month for 100,000 words in three. Choose yearly billing and you pay for ten months.
