How ConveyThis works on Jimdo

Jimdo offers two different builders, and only one of them accepts outside code. On Jimdo Creator you paste the ConveyThis snippet into Menu → Settings → Edit Head and save. The Jimdo Website Builder (the product Jimdo also calls Dolphin) does not let you insert your own code, so ConveyThis cannot be added to sites built with it.

Once the snippet is in the head of a Creator site, all pages are translated automatically and new ones are picked up as you publish them. You polish the wording in the ConveyThis dashboard, can send visitors to their browser language, and on the Business plan or higher can give each language its own sub-domain if your site uses a domain you control.

Integrate ConveyThis with your Jimdo website by following these simple steps:

Create a ConveyThis account here. Your ConveyThis account dashboard lets you view and manage all your translations.

Configure Your Integration

Select JavaScript as your website technology. Enter your domain name and indicate the languages you want to translate your website into. Click "Next" to proceed through the setup steps.

Copy JavaScript Code

Copy the JavaScript code snippet that appears on your screen with your unique API key.

Install in Jimdo

Go to your Jimdo admin area, navigate to Settings > Edit Head (or Custom Code section), and paste the JavaScript snippet into the head section. See detailed guide.

Jimdo website translation: common questions

Does ConveyThis work with both Jimdo Creator and the Jimdo Website Builder?

It works with Jimdo Creator, which has an Edit Head area for code from outside providers. Jimdo's help center states that the Jimdo Website Builder does not allow your own code or external widgets, which is where the ConveyThis snippet would have to go, so a Website Builder site cannot run ConveyThis today.

Where do I paste the ConveyThis code on Jimdo Creator?

Create a ConveyThis account, choose Jimdo as your platform, and enter your domain and the languages to add. Copy the snippet you are given, then in your Jimdo Creator admin open Menu → Settings → Edit Head, paste it and click Save. Visit your site: the language switcher appears at the bottom right, sometimes after a few minutes. The Jimdo setup guide lists the same steps.

Can I keep my imprint or privacy page in the original language?

Yes. Under Content Customization in the ConveyThis dashboard, add an Excluded Pages rule: Equal skips one exact URL, Start skips a whole section, and Contain or End match part of an address. Use relative URLs such as /imprint. Brand and product names can be protected separately with glossary rules on paid plans. The exclusion guide shows each option.

Can visitors land on my Jimdo site in their own language?

Yes. Turn on automatic redirection in the ConveyThis settings (Show more options → General) and each visitor is sent to the language their browser is set to, not the one their IP address suggests. Visitors can still switch with the language button whenever they like. The switch is a single setting, described in the redirection guide.

Can translated Jimdo pages get their own URLs for search engines?

Yes, on the Business plan or higher, as long as your Jimdo site runs on a domain whose DNS records you can edit. Language sub-domains such as fr.example.com are the recommended choice: one CNAME record per language, while the site itself stays hosted by Jimdo. ConveyThis adds hreflang tags and translates page titles and meta descriptions. The URL structure guide has the DNS steps.
