Freshdesk portal translation: common questions

Freshdesk already has a multilingual knowledge base. Why add ConveyThis?

Freshdesk's multilingual knowledge base asks you to write a translated version of each solution article for every supported language and keep those versions in step when the original changes. ConveyThis does the first draft for you: it machine-translates the portal as it is displayed, in any of 210 languages, and translates new or changed text as it appears. Your agents then review the result, lock product terms in the glossary and reuse approved wording through translation memory.

Where do I paste the ConveyThis code in Freshdesk?

Sign up for ConveyThis, pick Freshdesk as your platform, and enter your portal domain and target languages to get the snippet. In Freshdesk go to Admin, open your portal's settings (listed under Admin → Portals in Freshdesk's current menus), switch to Appearance and choose Clone & Edit theme. On the Pages tab, add the snippet to the head section of the layout, then save and publish the theme. The Freshdesk setup guide has screenshots of each screen.

Which Freshdesk plan do I need to add the snippet?

Adding code to the portal theme is a Freshdesk advanced portal customization feature, which Freshdesk offers on its Pro and Enterprise plans (and Estate and Forest on older plans), not on Free or Growth. ConveyThis itself does not care which Freshdesk tier you use; it only needs its snippet in the portal's head section.

Can each language of my support portal get its own address?

Yes, if the portal runs on a custom domain whose DNS you control, such as support.yourcompany.com (Freshdesk sets that up with a CNAME record). ConveyThis can then give each language its own sub-domain on the Business plan or higher, with one CNAME record per language and hreflang tags added. A portal on the default yourcompany.freshdesk.com address stays in ConveyThis's default mode. See the URL structure guide.

Will a knowledge base with hundreds of articles burn through my word allowance?

Not by existing. ConveyThis counts words when a translated page is actually shown to a person, so a German version of an article that no German customer opens costs nothing, and visits from search-engine bots are ignored. Small portals often fit the Free plan's 5,000 words in one language; Business covers 100,000 words in three languages for $24 a month. Check the plan table for larger tiers.
