Create a ConveyThis account here. Your ConveyThis account dashboard lets you view and manage all your translations.

Configure Your Integration

Select JavaScript as your website technology. Enter your domain name and indicate the languages you want to translate your website into. Click "Next" to proceed through the setup steps.

Copy JavaScript Code

Copy the JavaScript code snippet that appears on your screen.

Add Code to Ghost CMS

In your Ghost Admin, go to Settings → Code Injection. Paste the ConveyThis script into the Site Header section before the </head> tag.

Test and Optimize

Visit your website to see the language switcher appear at the bottom right (may take a few minutes). Manage your translations through the dashboard with Glossary rules, Auto-redirection, and many more features.

Ghost publication translation: common questions

Isn't Ghost's publication language setting enough?

That setting changes the language of your theme's fixed text and of Ghost's own system text, which Ghost translates for transactional emails, the Portal membership screens, search and comments. It does not translate the posts and pages you write. ConveyThis adds that part: your articles, page copy, titles and meta descriptions in the languages you choose, out of 210 supported languages.

Where exactly does the ConveyThis snippet go in Ghost?

Use the site-wide Site header field under Settings → Advanced → Code injection, so the script loads on every page. Ghost also has code injection for single posts in the post settings, but a snippet placed there only runs on that one post. Get your snippet by creating a ConveyThis account and entering your domain and languages; the snippet setup guide shows those dashboard steps.

Are my Ghost newsletters translated as well?

No. Newsletters are emailed by Ghost straight to inboxes, and ConveyThis translates your website pages, not emails. The same post on your site, however, can be read in every language you have added, so readers who prefer another language can follow the link to the web version and use the language switcher there.

Can a Ghost site get language sub-domains for SEO?

Yes, on the Business plan or higher, but it needs a custom domain whose DNS you control; a publication that still lives on its ghost.io address cannot add language sub-domains. With your own domain, add one CNAME record per language, for example es.example.com, and ConveyThis adds hreflang tags. Folder URLs like /es/ can be set up as well, but that means routing your entire domain through ConveyThis. See the URL structure guide.

Will years of archived posts use up my word allowance?

Only the posts people actually read in another language. ConveyThis counts words when a translated page is shown to a visitor, and bot visits are not counted, so an old post nobody opens in Spanish adds nothing. To keep a section out of translation altogether, such as /tag/ archives, add an Excluded Pages rule that starts with that path. Plans and word limits are on the pricing page.
