Backbone.js translation: common questions

Backbone has no i18n module. What are my options?
The classic route is a separate i18n library: you swap every hard-coded string in your templates for a key, keep a translation file per language and load the right one when the app starts. On an older codebase that is a sizeable refactor. ConveyThis needs none of it, because it translates the markup after your views have rendered it, and wording is corrected in a visual editor rather than in JSON files. For a mature app that nobody wants to reopen, that difference matters.
Where do I add the script in a Backbone app?
В <head> of the HTML page that loads Backbone, Underscore and your application code, immediately ahead of the closing </head> tag. A single-page Backbone app normally has only that one page; if your server renders several pages that each start Backbone, put it in the shared layout. The code to copy is shown in your dashboard once your languages are chosen, as described in the JavaScript руководство по настройке.
Does it follow Backbone.history routes, including #hash URLs?
Yes. ConveyThis reacts to hashchange events as well as to pushState and popstate, so it notices a route change whether you started Backbone.history with the defaults or with {pushState: true}. The text of the view your route handler renders is then translated without a page reload.
What happens when a view re-renders after its model changes?
When a render() call replaces a view's content, for example after the model fires change or a collection finishes fetch, new text lands in the page and ConveyThis translates it there. Your models and the data on your server keep their original language. To leave values such as usernames or SKUs alone, add the conveythis-no-translate class to those elements in the template, as the руководство по исключению объясняет.
Can search engines find the translated versions of my Backbone app?
Give each language its own address and they can be crawled separately. On the Business plan or higher, choose language sub-domains (fr.example.com, with a CNAME record per language) or, if you specifically need them, /fr/ sub-directories, which require pointing your domain's A record at ConveyThis. Either mode outputs hreflang tags automatically. Without either, the language is switched in the browser and every version shares the original URL. More in the Руководство по структуре URL-адресов.
