Drupal multilingual site: common questions

Why use ConveyThis instead of Drupal's core multilingual modules?
Drupal core ships four modules: Language, Interface Translation, Content Translation and Configuration Translation. They give you a solid structure, but core does not machine-translate anything: an editor adds each translation per node, term or block, field by field. ConveyThis produces the translations automatically from the rendered page and updates them when the source changes. Teams that want full human control over every field may prefer core; teams that want a multilingual site running quickly, then refined, are the ones ConveyThis suits.
How do I add the ConveyThis snippet to Drupal?
Get your snippet by creating a ConveyThis account, choosing Drupal and entering your domain and languages. Install the Asset Injector module, go to Configuration → Development → Asset Injector → JS Injector, create a new injector, paste the snippet and tick the option to load the script in the header of the page, then save. Follow the Drupal setup guide for screenshots.
Which Drupal versions does this work with?
ConveyThis only needs its script in the page head, so it is not tied to a Drupal core API. Asset Injector's current stable release supports Drupal 10.3 and 11; if your site runs an older version, use whichever method your theme or modules already offer for adding a script to every page.
Are Views, exposed filters and AJAX-loaded content translated?
Yes. The widget watches the page after it loads, so results that a View pulls in through AJAX, pager clicks and expanded blocks are translated as they appear. The page title and meta description are translated too. To leave a region untouched, for example a code block or a user name, add the conveythis-no-translate class to it in your template.
Can my Drupal site use fr.example.com or example.com/fr/?
Both, on the Business plan or higher, with hreflang tags added for you. Sub-domains are the recommended choice: one CNAME record per language, and Drupal keeps running on your current host. Sub-directories need the whole domain's A record pointed at ConveyThis, so use them only if you specifically want /fr/ paths. The sub-domain vs sub-directory guide covers the DNS side.
