How ConveyThis works on Shift4Shop (formerly 3dcart)

3dcart became Shift4Shop after Shift4 bought the platform in 2020, and stores built under either name are set up the same way. ConveyThis is added as a script in the Header and Footer settings of your store manager, then translates what shoppers load: product and category pages, content pages, and anything the theme renders afterwards.

You review wording in the ConveyThis dashboard, not in the Shift4Shop store manager, so there is still only one set of product pages to maintain. For language versions that search engines can index separately, point a sub-domain per language, such as de.yourstore.com, at ConveyThis with a CNAME record; that option starts on the Business plan.

Create a ConveyThis account here. Your ConveyThis account dashboard lets you view and manage all your translations.

Configure Your Integration

Select JavaScript as your website technology. Enter your domain name and indicate the languages you want to translate your website into. Click "Next" to proceed through the setup steps.

Copy JavaScript Code

Copy the JavaScript code snippet that appears on your screen (replace "YOUR_API_KEY" with your actual API key).

Install in 3dcart

Paste the JavaScript snippet into your 3dcart store's <head> section, typically found in your theme settings or custom code section. See detailed integration guide.

Test and Optimize

Visit your store to see the language switcher appear at the bottom right (may take a few minutes). Test functionality and enhance your store with Glossary rules, Edit translations, and translation management features.

Shift4Shop and 3dcart translation: common questions

Is 3dcart the same platform as Shift4Shop?

Yes. Shift4 acquired 3dcart in November 2020 and renamed it Shift4Shop, and its support knowledge base still sits on a 3dcart web address. If your store was opened in the 3dcart days, nothing changes for ConveyThis: choose the JavaScript option when you add your domain and follow the same steps as a newer Shift4Shop store.

Where do I paste the ConveyThis code in Shift4Shop?

Create a ConveyThis account, enter your store domain and languages, and copy the snippet it gives you. In the Shift4Shop store manager, open the Header and Footer settings, switch WYSIWYG mode off, and paste the snippet into the Global Footer, the field Shift4Shop recommends for scripts that must run on every page. Save, then look for the switcher in the bottom-right corner. The JavaScript setup guide covers the dashboard side.

Which parts of a Shift4Shop store are translated?

Every storefront page the script loads on: the home page, product names and descriptions, category listings, content pages and the page titles and meta descriptions behind them. Text that appears after the page opens, such as a mini-cart or a quick-view window, is picked up as well. Before you announce a new language, place a test order in it so you can see the cart and checkout steps the way a customer will.

Can SKUs, brand names and model numbers stay as they are?

Yes. On paid plans, add them to the glossary as terms that are never translated; the glossary is case-sensitive, so enter them exactly as they appear. For a whole element, such as a spec table, add the conveythis-no-translate class in your template, and for whole pages use an excluded-page rule. See excluding content from translation.

Can each language of my Shift4Shop store get its own web address?

From the Business plan up. The route we suggest is a sub-domain for each language, for example es.yourstore.com, created with one CNAME record; your main domain keeps pointing at Shift4Shop. Folder-style addresses like yourstore.com/es/ also work, but only by pointing the domain's A record at ConveyThis, which sends all traffic through us. Hreflang tags are added with either choice, as the URL structure guide explains.
